This course is an introduction to applied theatre, a field that uses theatre as amedium for real-world education, activism, therapy, and civic engagement. Wewill study key forms of applied theatre including educational theatre, Playback,Theatre of the Oppressed, prison theatre, drama therapy, and other approachesto using theatre for a practical purpose. Students will design and carry out acollaborative, community-based applied theatre project.
