Description

This course examines major film tendencies and movements vis-à-vis the cultural, literary, and aesthetic movements in 20th and 21st- century Latin America. Special attention is given to the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, the Cinema Novo, and the Cuban Revolutionary cinema. In addition to the analysis of theoretical trends, film language and terminology, this course also considers issues of social class, racial and sexual identities, ideologies and globalization in Latin America. All films will be digitized and available on Blackboard. Students are expected to view the films on their own time. Not open to students who have completed SPA 4285. (Students will receive credit for either CMP or FLM 3160, not both. These courses may substitute for each other in the F-replacement policy.)
