Description
This course examines novels, short stories, essays (in English translation), and cinema from former French colonies in Africa and the Caribbean. It focuses on cultural differences, colonialism, religion, oral and literary tradition, the roles of the family, and education. Among issues to be discussed are alienation, displacement and migration, and the changing role of women in society. This course may be included in the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Minor.
