Description

This course explores patterns of representation of the immigrant subject in recent films made in Europe, the U.S. and Latin America. It focuses on the role of cinema as a cultural and ideological apparatus representing the intersection of race, gender, sexuality, and class. It includes topics such as: social policies towards immigrants and refugees, criminalization of immigration, integration versus assimilation, the correlation between xenophobia/racism and political or economic nationalism. This course is cross-listed as FLM 4100 and LTT 4100. Students will receive credit for one of these courses. These courses may not substitute for each other in the F-replacement policy.
