Description

This course examines the range of poetry produced in England in the sixteenth- and seventeenth centuries. It surveys Renaissance poetry in its literary, cultural, and political contexts. Readings include foundational works in poetry and poetics, experiments in genre and form, and exemplary texts, such as Spenser’s The Faerie Queene, Herbert’s The Temple, and Milton’s Paradise Lost.
