This course is an intensive study of the Black American family. African heritage, post-Civil War family structure, and the impact of urbanization are the initial focus. Next we compare and contrast Black upper middle class, lower middle class, and working class family structures. We also explore the Black single life, the polygamous relationship, and other life-styles. Black American, Western Indian, and immigrant African family structures and variations are also examined.
