Description
This course will examine the important social, cultural, intellectual, and economic trends that led to the formation of Chinese civilization. The period covered will be from the prehistoric period to the fourteenth century. The course will focus on the idea of the Mandate of Heaven, the cultural values inspired by Confucianism, the changes and continuities within the Chinese society, the patterns of economic growth, China's interactions with neighboring settled and nomadic societies, and the creation of the Sinocentric world view. This course is cross-listed as HIS 3851. Students may receive credit for AAS 3851 or HIS 3851, not both.
